Country Of the Week!

That's right... no longer content with Bud of the Week am I... presenting, COUNTRY OF THE WEEK!

And the winner is...

TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

Trinidad and Tobago is a republic in the Commonwealth, and is located in the southernmost corner of the Carribean, almost touching South America. The islands are 32km apart.

The tallest mountain, as such, in T&T is El Cerro del Aripo, at 940m. There is one natural harbour, but the large Gulf of Paria is also very calm and suitable for anchorage.

The 1989 population of T&T was 1,285,000. The capital is Port of Spain, with 60,000 people. Other major cities include San Fernando and Arima. West Indians of African descent make up 43% of the population and East Indians make up another 40%. This is yet another country of the week that has a surprisingly large Chinese population. English is the dominant language, though Spanish and Hindi are also common.

There is one university- The University of the West Indies.

70% of annual exports are crude and refined petrol. Sugar, cacao beans and rum are other principal exports.
